Fantasy Stud: Colin Kaepernick’s Day Only Topped by Peyton Manning’s Historic Night

Kaepernick

Candlestick Park has seen some breathtaking games played by the quarterbacks that have played for the San Francisco 49ers. The stadium which seen Joe Montana and Dwight Clark’s historic play known as “The Catch” and Steve Young and Terrell Owens’s play against the Green Bay Packers dubbed “The Catch: Part II” got another great performance by a quarterback on its last opening day.

Coming into the Fantasy season, 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick was the flavor of the week for many experts or possibly one quarterback who will not live up to the hype this season. Many people wondered if the second-year starter, playing in his first opening day as the No. 1 quarterback, would be the same guy that took the 49ers to the Super Bowl just a season ago. Many of those people drafted him as their starting quarterback in their Fantasy football leagues and probably grabbed a top back-up quarterback just in case Kaepernick did not pan out. However on Sunday, Kaepernick may have silenced all of his critics by putting on another top Fantasy day against the Packers. Last season in the playoffs, Kaepernick did it with his legs. This game, Kaepernick did it with his arm. This assured all of his Fantasy owners that selecting him as their No. 1 quarterback was possibly a championship-winning decision. Kaepernick completed 27 of 39 passes for a career high 412 yards and three throwing touchdowns. Kaepernick didn’t even have his favorite go to receiver Michael Crabtree to throw to, so he threw the ball around to six different receivers. Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis were the main benefactors of his career day, making these two pass catchers must plays in any format of a Fantasy league.

Kaepernick would have had the best Fantasy day of any quarterback in the league, however future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning decided to have a record week passing for seven touchdowns in one game. In all most all Fantasy drafts, Manning was selected higher than Kaepernick. I don’t blame anyone for doing this. There were many question marks with taking Kaepernick high in Fantasy drafts, and there still may be some questions, because it was only one week. However, if Kaepernick can throw like this for the rest of the season and even give his Fantasy owners some big runs now and again, Kaepernick will be in the top-five of quarterbacks in Fantasy leagues. Feed into the hype, because this guy is the real deal!
