Fantasy Football Week 2: With Danny Amendola Most Likely Out, Will Tom Brady Struggle?

At this point, all signs point to New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola missing Thursday’s game against the New York Jets with a groin injury. For a team adjusting to life without Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker, and Aaron Hernandez, this is the last thing the Patriots wanted to hear as their offense struggled enough against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday.

What will be even more interesting to see–how Tom Brady performs if Amendola is forced to watch Thursday’s game from the sidelines.

Brady struggled a bit against the Bills as he completed 29 of 52 passes for 288 yards to go along with two touchdowns and one interception, but the important factor is he helped the Patriots come through when it mattered the most in the fourth quarter to help his team win 23-21. Normally, Brady can be relied on to put up solid numbers as he’s always had a reputation for making the players around him better throughout his career, but something about this year seems to be different.

This time around–Brady may need to rely on other members of the Patriots to step up their game more than ever.

Amendola was one of Brady’s favorite targets in his Patriots debut as he caught 10 passes for 104 yards and there’s no question he’ll clearly be missed if he’s out of the lineup on Thursday. Brady’s targets were already slim pickings to begin with, but with all signs pointing to Amendola being out for Week 2–Brady’s production could take a hit for fantasy football owners this week.
