Vick Ballard is out for the season, per Adam Schefter. While reports over what kind of injury Ballard has have not yet been released, Schefter is about as reliable as they come in the NFL. What does his injury mean for the fantasy football value of the next man up, Ahmad Bradshaw?
The Indianapolis Colts were already looking to get Bradshaw more involved in the running game, well now they really have no choice but to lean on the seventh year pro. Bradshaw is in his first season with the Colts after posting 1,000+ yards in two of the last three seasons with the New York Giants. His fantasy value just took a big jump.
This week, it’s hard to put Bradshaw anywhere higher than a RB2 option against a quietly good Miami Dolphins run defense. While it might have had more to do with Rob Chudzinski’s game plan, remember this Dolphins unit held Trent Richardson to only 47 rushing yards last week.
Looking at the longer term, Bradshaw is a guy who could score seven to ten touchdowns. The running ability of quarterback Andrew Luck is a bit concerning, but I believe that we won’t see Luck run as much as he has in the past unless he is forced to. There are some very solid run defenses the Colts face this season including the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans, and Cincinnati Bengals.
I think looking for Bradshaw to come in and be your RB1 is a bit of a reach, but if you were looking to get a RB2 or flex option, he could perform decently in that capacity. If you want him, act quick, as he is already owned in 85 percent of Yahoo! leagues, and as this news spreads, that number is sure to increase.
As always, I welcome your comments. If you think I’m wrong, I’m willing to listen. Just back it up with some facts and solid evidence. Thanks for reading and good luck this season.
