Week 2 Fantasy Football Dark Horse: Baltimore Ravens WR Marlon Brown

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

As we get set to watch week two of the NFL season this weekend, plenty of us are searching for some of those hot waiver wire pickups in our fantasy football leagues. By now, Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver Marlon Brown has been added in plenty of leagues already. If he is not, now is the time to pick him up.

Here’s the upside with Brown: Jacoby Jones is hurt and his future is uncertain. Jones has never been a true wideout. He’s been known more for a return specialist. Brown, on the other hand, is 6’5” with the body of a big-time wide receiver.

Deonte Thompson is still banged up and may not be able to play this week, leaving the Ravens with Torrey Smith and Brown as the starters with Brandon Stokely as that all-important slot guy. Thompson would have been the fourth wideout, but at this point his chances of playing are uncertain.

In week one, Brown caught four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. He was targeted five times, and with four catches he showed his quarterback Joe Flacco that he’s worth tossing the ball to.

Flacco doesn’t have many options. With tight end Dennis Pitta out for the year, the pickings are slim in the passing game and Brown has been the talk of the town. He has tons of potential to be the legitimate second wideout Baltimore needs, and not down the road — right now.

Baltimore is in trouble with their options in the passing game. Brown has a shot to lock down a lot of playing time this season if he continues to perform well, and by all indications I am sure he will. If you need a solid WR3 or WR4 in your league — assuming it’s not an eight team league — I would grab Brown before he is gone, if he’s not already.
