2013 Fantasy Football Dark Horse: Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell
Before you start reading this article, quick, go to your fantasy football league page. Search the players for Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell. If he is available, still, pick him up.
Do it, go ahead, do it. I can wait.
Alright, ready for a reason why he should be owned in every single league across the web? Here it is.
Against the Minnesota Vikings on sunday, Bell scored himself two touchdowns inside the two-yard line. Fellow running back Mikel Leshoure was a healthy scratch, giving Bell the go-ahead backup role in this one. Going forward, after Bell’s great performance, it might be tough for him to not get touches in the near future.
With Reggie Bush dominating tons of the touches on offense for Detroit, Bell also had a fair share of the load as well. The Lions are going to spread the ball around making sure everyone gets an opportunity to make a play. With Bush, Bell and Calvin Johnson as threats in the passing game, quarterback Matthew Stafford could be in for a big year.
Bell totaled 25 yards on six carries to go along with five catches for 67 yards. It sure looks like Bell has solidified himself as the number two guy on the depth chart, even though Leshoure is still readily available. Bell has hardly been heard of in recent years after being cut by the New Orleans Saints in 2011. Signing with Detroit, then, he has found his way into a few touches each game as time went on.
In fantasy leagues, Bell is a must-own. With Bush nursing two injuries — groin and finger — Bell could find himself getting an even bigger load at some point this year. Assuming Bush stays healthy, Bell will still be a factor fantasy-wise as the Lions could possess one of the league’s top offenses when it’s all said and done.
