Seattle Seahawks Defense to Outscore Most Players in Week 3

Seahawks' defense

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Many fantasy football managers decide to choose a defense near or at the end of their drafts each year. Team defenses tend not to be a main concern of managers, and many choose to go with a “defense by committee” approach.

This week, the Seattle Seahawks defense may have a fantasy football day for the ages. In Week 3, the football gods decided to have the Seahawks face arguably the worst offense in the NFL in the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars have many issues with their offense. The team has no starting quarterback of note. Blaine Gabbert seems to be a busted drafted pick and Chad Henne does not seem to want to take over the starting job. Maurice Jones-Drew injured his ankle in Week 2. Even with a healthy MJD, the Jags have hardly any other weapons at their disposal to score points.

The Seahawks’ defense is the worst thing that could happen to the Jaguars. If you own the Seahawks’ defense, you have to be foaming at the mouth when you see this matchup.

In Week 2, the Seahawks faced the division rivals San Francisco 49ers and shut them down. The game on Sunday night looked more like a high school football game than a game between two league giants. If the Seahawks’ defense did that against the defending NFC Champions, can you imagine what will happen against the Jaguars?

My prediction for the Seahawks’ team defense is ridiculous. Look for the team to have five sacks, with many more hits on the quarterback. The Jaguars may score six points with two field goals at best. Also, look for the Seahawks to force two turnovers with one going for a score. I think they only thing that this team defense may not get is a safety, but at the rate those are happening in the league this season, it is very possible.

If you own the Seahawks’ defense, congratulations — your team defense may score 25-30 points. If you’re going against Seattle’s defense, I do apologize. This week could hurt very much.
