Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Josh Gordon

Early in the season every Fantasy Football player goes looking for those gem players who can help shore up some of the problems your lineup might suffer along the way.  Whether it’s your running back dribbling one down his leg or your backup receiver’s stone hands frustrating you for the last time, it is a salient truth that you need to get your hands on good free agents now before your competition picks the ranks clean.

In Week 2 we saw the emergence of DeAndre Hopkins and Eddie Royal topping a lot of people’s lists. One hot player to go after from this week’s performance is Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon.

He’s been off a lot of people’s radar because after he was suspended for the first two weeks of the season for off field problems related to his maturity and alleged violations of the substance abuse policy. Gordon was a darling of the old Browns regime.  Mike Holmgren liked Gordon so much last season that he sacrificed a third round pick in the 2012 NFL Supplemental draft, thus sacrificing a third round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Gordon is a long strider who has a lot of room to mature. He has soft hands and playmaking ability that he has flashed at times, while at other times he appeared to take plays off.

The two-game suspension seemed to have made a serious impact on the young receiver as he went off with 10 catches for 146 yards receiving and a touchdown and also chipped in 22 yards rushing. Sure there is concern that the Browns are a team that might be phoning it in at times this season, but clearly they are capable of playing a competitive game and look to get the ball into the hands of their playmakers like Gordon. You can’t afford to leave him out there for your competition to grab.  If you can find the space you need to add him with your first wavier choice.
