Fantasy Baseball: Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado's Injury Not Serious

One of the most promising rookies from the 2013 fantasy baseball season was 3B Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles.

Machado played in every game up until this point, so the injury was even more unexpected. The All-Star was hitting .283 this season with 14 home runs, 71 RBIs in 156 games this season. He was also leading the entire American League with 51 doubles.

To the dismay of thousands of fantasy owners, Machado was carted off the field on a stretcher after injuring his leg in a game on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The rookie third baseman was injured running out an infield single in the seventh inning. Baltimore eventually won the game 5-4, but the loss of Machado was seriously concerning to anyone with the star on their dynasty league roster.

Machado had a MRI on Tuesday afternoon and it thankfully came out that he just tore his medial patellofemoral ligament. Granted any injury is unfortunate, but it could have been a torn ACL, which would be a much more grueling rehab. Machado may not even need surgery to repair the tear and could actually be running in six to eight weeks.

Every dynasty league owner with the youngster on their roster has to be breathing a sigh of relief after today’s news. The third baseman may still need surgery in the coming weeks, but either way he should be in the lineup on opening day.
