Kansas City Chiefs’ Alex Smith: Dark Horse Sleeper for Week 4

Chiefs

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Are in need for a Fantasy quarterback this weekend, but feel that all the good ones have been scooped up already? Fear not as you may be able to scoop up this weekends best sleeper in Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.

On the season, Smith has thrown for 669 yards and with four touchdowns. He’s been effective on the ground, as well, picking up 114 yards on 23 attempts. What makes Smith even more attractive is the fact that he takes care of the football. Smith has yet to turn the football over.

This season, Smith has by no means been a Fantasy stud, but he hasn’t been a Fantasy flop either. On ESPN Fantasy Football, Smith has scored 16 points, 21 points and 13 points in three games this season. This coming week, he is projected get you 13 points. However, that number could end up much higher by looking at their opponent, the New York Giants.

So far this season, the Giants have yet to show that they have a defense that is to be feared. They are 0-3 and have given up a league-high 115 points including seven passing touchdowns. They have given up an average of 253 yards through the air and recently got picked apart by Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Newton threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns.

For Alex Smith, he should have no troubles achieving the same success especially with the weapons that he will have at his disposal. Dwayne BoweDonnie Avery and Jamal Charles out of the backfield are three very viable options for Smith to throw the ball to and can get yards after the catch, which only adds to the Fantasy points that Smith will be getting simply for completing the pass.

If both of your quarterbacks are out for the week or you’re just looking to change things up, picking up Alex Smith isn’t a bad idea. While he may not lead the Fantasy world in points this week, he certainly will make it worth your time putting him on your team. Don’t wait or he may not be there when you finally decide to pull the trigger. On ESPN Fantasy Football, he is the second most added quarterback as 14.1-percent of leagues have seen Smith added to their rosters in the past seven days.
