Fantasy Football: Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates Are Partying Like It’s 2010

Antonio Gates

It has been very strange to see the San Diego Chargers‘ offense rely so heavily on Antonio Gates. However, with Philip Rivers clicking on all cylinders; it seems only right that this dynamic duo is torturing NFL defenses once again. Gates was for the most part left for dead this off-season, as the 33-year old tight end was supposed to just throw in the towel and count the days until his retirement.

However, that has hardly been the case as Gates currently has 44 fantasy points (standard) after just four weeks of play. Not to mention, Gates has hauled in a touchdown in back-t0-back games and is on pace to score eight touchdowns. It’s easy to see that the No. 85 remains the most consistent offensive weapon in San Diego.

Meanwhile, Rivers has also revived his career after disappointing fantasy owners two years in a row. Heading into Week 4; Rivers has scored the fifth most fantasy points from the quarterback position and his numbers are sure to improve after a Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys that saw Rivers throw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns.

For now, fantasy owners with either Gates or Rivers on their team are partying like it’s 2010 all over again.
