Fantasy Football: Can Greg Jennings Value Go Up With Matt Cassel?

The NFL made one of their yearly visits to London to showcase professional football live for the fans living across the ocean. The Pittsburgh Steelers took on the Minnesota Vikings, and reports came out during the week that Vikings starting quarterback Christian Ponder would not start against the Steelers and that former Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel would be the team’s starter.

If you are a Greg Jennings owner in fantasy football, you have to be excited about this move. Jennings had his best day as a Viking with three receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns. This is exactly what Jennings’ owners were looking for when they drafted him in their fantasy drafts.

If you are wondering if this is just a one-game fluke, you have your reasons. After the game, Jennings made the comments that Cassel is, “More verbal and commanding in the huddle” than Ponder is, and the communication showed, especially on the 70-yard touchdown catch-and-run Jennings scored during the game.

In many leagues, Jennings may be a free agent that you could be able to grab. Look, I am not saying that Jennings will put the numbers up that he did with Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers, but I think this change in quarterbacks for the Vikings could be a blessing for Jennings’ fantasy output for the rest of this season.

The Vikings will run the ball most of the time with Adrian Peterson. If they can begin to work Jennings in more and more into their offensive scheme, especially with a quarterback who is a great deal better than Ponder, than look for not only Jennings numbers but Peterson’s numbers to go up thanks to good quarterback play behind them.
