So much for Zach Sudfeld turning into the next Rob Gronkowski with the New England Patriots

Fantasy football owners were burned by the Patriots once again on Thursday as New England announced that it would be cutting ties with Sudfeld after just four regular season games with the team. Even though Sudfeld was a hot commodity in many fantasy football leagues in August, it was made pretty clear to us all that Tom Brady was simply not comfortable throwing the ball to this undrafted rookie once the games started to count.

This is just another classic case of an NFL player failing to live up to expectations, thus allowing a prime-time starting position to slip through his hands. To be frank; Sudfeld was given the keys to be Brady’s top target in 2013 with Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez both starting the season away from the field, and failed.

At the end of the day; Sudfeld can thank his fumble against the Atlanta Falcons for his premature exit from New England because that play was not only costly it was a sign that the Patriots’ tight end might not be able to handle the bigger moments. Trust me, a Bill Belichick-led team can ill afford to have players that can’t step up when it matters most.
