Fantasy Football Week 5: More Bad News, Alternative Solution For Stevan Ridley Owners

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

A few days ago, I wrote that Stevan Ridley owners may want to be a bit nervous about his start to the 2013 season. After beginning in Bill Belichick’s dog house, Ridley has not gotten it going in the manner his owners had envisioned he would this year. Just when his owners thought it couldn’t really get that much worse, it did.

Ridley was pronounced out for Sunday’s game, when the New England Patriots take on the Cincinnati Bengals, with a knee injury. Ridley did not practice this week and, because of that, this really comes as no surprise.

With only 174 yards on 47 carries this year, fantasy owners should be thinking about trading him quickly — if his value hasn’t already completely gone out the window. Other than dumping him, there is another option this week for those owners that need a fill-in on the spot.

With Brandon Bolden also being limited in practice and having a questionable status going into Sunday, LeGarrette Blount could prove to be a solid pickup for owners needing a quick pickup before the games get going this weekend.

Blount has averaged a healthy 4.6 yard average per carry this year and has over 60 rushing yards in two straight games. Blount also scored a touchdown last week in primetime. In a year where he is trying to revitalize his career, this next contest could be incredibly important to Blount as he may establish himself as a legitimate option in the Patriots’ offense.

Continue to try moving Ridley as soon as possible, but if all else fails, having Blount could suffice for now as Ridley can’t seem to figure this season out just yet.
