With the bye weeks in fantasy football going into its third week, waiver wire additions for any position are key. You always want to guess right with picking the players, but it is essential to pick the right players when it comes to the running back position.
If you are in need of a running back for the next couple of weeks because of byes or injuries, here is a player that will soon be the feature back of his team: Andre Ellington of the Arizona Cardinals.
At the beginning of the season, it was common sense to figure that former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall would be the new starting running back for the Cardinals. Not only was he a previous starter, but the Cardinals’ new head coach Bruce Arians did very well by Mendenhall when he was the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh.
After a few weeks, Mendenhall has not looked very good for the Cardinals, and Ellington has been moving in on the starting job. In the last game against the Carolina Panthers, these numbers really started to show. Mendenhall had 17 carries for 43 yards, and Ellington had seven carries for 52 yards. This shows that there is and needs to be a changing of the guard in Arizona at the running back position.
Now, I know that a running back split is not something any fantasy owner wants to deal with ever. This is currently the situation in Arizona, but the more games that Ellington plays, the less time Mendenhall will eventually see as the starter. I think within the next two weeks, Ellington will be a nice flex play in all leagues and will eventually be a nice addition as a RB2 play in any league.
Go ahead and add Ellington with confidence. You will be glad you did!
