2013 Fantasy Hockey: C Joe Thornton Keeps Producing

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

One of the most dependable centers in fantasy hockey over the last decade has been C Joe Thornton. He shows up game after game, and regardless of the line he plays on, Thornton is always among the team leaders in points. Now playing with the San Jose Sharks, Thornton is off to another hot start for fantasy owners.

Thornton has averaged over one point per game this year (1.33) and the 34-year-old has not shown his age at all. In six games, Thornton has scored one goal and added eight assists for a total of nine points. He also has an incredible plus-10 rating, which is currently the best in the entire NHL. Thornton may only have eight total shots on net this year, but he is doing everything else for fantasy owners.

Thornton also rarely misses a game. In his last seven seasons alone, the six-time All-Star has only missed a total of five games. Everyone knows how tough hockey player are, but they are still susceptible to injuries due to the physical nature of the sport. Thornton, on the other hand, has been one of the most durable middlemen in the history of the game. He is one player that you can count on every single night.

Thornton may not be the star center he was a couple years ago, but he can still be a very serviceable option. He will be a strong second center in any fantasy formats and the veteran will once again keep up with the young guns all season long.
