Week 7 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: WR Jarrett Boykin

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

One fantasy football waiver wire option that is being somewhat overlooked heading into Week 7 is WR Jarrett Boykin of the Green Bay Packers.

In the Green Bay’s Week 6 contest against the Baltimore Ravens, the team lost two of the starting three wideouts. Baltimore S Matt Elam injured starting wide receiver Randall Cobb on a very low hit and Cobb unfortunately sprained his MCL. He will spend several weeks on IR and it leaves the team with a hole at the wide recover spot.

As if the Cobb injury wasn’t enough, WR James Jones was also injured in the game. Jones suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of the game while blocking for running back Eddie Lacy and the wideout sat out the rest of the game. There is rumored to be a chance that Jones could play this week, but he will most likely miss the upcoming game this weekend.

Green Bay will obviously lean more on WR Jordy Nelson to move the chains, but Boykin can be a legitimate dark horse sleeper to look for this week. QB Aaron Rodgers still connected with Boykin on a 43-yard strike last week and the wideout showed that he has potential as a deep threat.

Boykin, a former Virginia Tech standout, did look somewhat shaky last weekend though. He only caught one of his six targets and had two drops in limited action, but the team has no one else for Rodgers to line up outside. Sometimes big fantasy performances come out of necessity as opposed to opportunity and it is clear that the Pack need this wideout to step up this weekend. Worst comes to worst, Boykin will get plenty of chances to make a play this Sunday.

Boykin is available in almost every fantasy league and is worth a spot as a WR3 in deeper formats. He may not be worth owning once Jones returns to the field, but for now Boykin is worth taking a shot on in Week 7.
