2013 Fantasy Hockey: G Antti Niemi Off To Hot Start

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

The San Jose Sharks are off to an unbelievably hot start. The team is 6-0-1 and currently leading the league in almost every offensive category.

The best thing for a fantasy hockey goaltender is a strong offense, and San Jose G Antti Niemi has certainly benefited from the offensive explosion this season. As a result of his team’s hot-streak, Niemi has an undefeated 6-0-1 record in regulation and has continuously come up huge for fantasy owners. He has a glimmering 1.70 Goals Against Average (G.A.A.) to go along with a 93.0% save percentage, which are some of the best numbers among full-time starters.

It is true that Niemi has given up at least one goal in each contest this season, but the veteran goaltender has saved at least 20 shots in each game as well. Shots saved is a very important category in daily roto-leagues and it is equally impressive that Niemi have been a steady source of saves on top of racking up wins in San Jose.

Niemi is without a doubt a number one fantasy netminder, but he is currently playing like the number one goalie in all of fantasy. He is on pace to rival his career number of wins (35) and the Finnish star will be as good as it gets for the remainder of the fantasy season.
