Fantasy Football: Is C.J. Spiller a Fantasy Bust?

Spiller

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Many fantasy owners who drafted from picks five through nine selected the highly-rated running back from the Buffalo BillsC.J. Spiller. Almost all fantasy football experts said that Spiller was going to be a “beast” in every type of league and that you should drafted him higher than players like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Calvin Johnson.

For all of you who drafted Spiller, I am sorry, but I do not feel bad for you. Many of you should have see this coming, especially after the comments in the preseason that said the Bills would run Spiller “until he throws up”. Over the past few weeks, former starting running back, Fred Jackson has had a comeback season and is taking the touchdowns and fantasy points away from Spiller.

So much for making Spiller throw up — instead, the Bills are making his fantasy owners do that.

The big question facing all Spiller owners is this: Is he considered a fantasy football bust yet?

My answer is yes! For a player that you drafted in the first round and decided to build your team around, he is having a terrible season. Then again, he is not the only running back that was drafted high in the draft that is having a bad season so far (ask any owner of Trent Richardson).

You could try to trade Spiller, but you will not get the return that is expected of a first round draft pick. If you hold on to him, which will probably happen with most owners, then you must play him as you expected to do. The only hope that any Spiller owner has is if Jackson goes down with an injury. If this would happen, then Spiller’s value would see a significant spike in production.

Regardless of the situation, this is just not good for Spiller owners. Hopefully, if you own him, you can pick up some productive free agents and ride the ship. It is sad, but like I said before, I can’t feel bad for you!
