Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Should You Add Roy Helu?

Every week, fantasy football owners read and watch patiently to pick up the next big thing for their fantasy team. The most important position to do that with is the running back position, and many fantasy owners think they have found their new “fling” going into Week 8.

Many fantasy owners will look to add Washington Redskins running back Roy Helu to their rosters this week. If you are an owner that is looking to do this, you have to really ask yourself if this the right move to make, especially if you have a waiver wire order in your league?

My answer to this is: do not pick up Helu!

If you look at Helu’s stats so far this season, he has not gained over 90 total yards of offense in one game yet. Yes, he had three touchdowns in Week 7 against the Chicago Bears, but look at the coach — his name is Mike Shanahan. He plays and benches running backs like they are bad girlfriends. One week he loves Alfred Morris and runs him all the time. Next week, he will favor Helu. This will go back and forth for the rest of the season.

I am not saying if you really need a back that Helu is a terrible pick-up. I am just saying that Helu will not be consistent at all unless an injury occurs to Morris. If Morris goes down, then Helu will have very good value. However, do not look for Helu to be Darren Sproles or even Danny Woodhead anytime soon.
