2013 Fantasy Football: Flint Michigan Megabowl’s Thurman Murmans Week Seven Results

As promised, I bring you the results from the Flint Michigan Megabowl Fantasy Football League.

This week the Thurman Murmans (4-2) faced off against Macon Bacon (4-2). The winner of this game would at least have sole possession of second place, possibly first depending on the outcome of other games.

Matthew Stafford continues to start for the Murmans and is now the second highest scoring quarterback in the Megabowl, after posting 357 yards and three passing touchdowns for 38.28 fantasy points. Macon Bacon started Eli Manning (200 yards, 1 TD, 12.5 points), who was no match for Stafford.

At QB2 Macon Bacon started Joe Flacco (215 yards, 1 TD, 15 points) going against Jay Cutler for the Murmans. I thought Cutler had a better matchup than Matt Ryan and while that fact did turn out to be right, Cutler played worse than Brandon Weeden “scoring” almost six points in the negative, on 28 yards passing, one sack and one pick six. Ouch.

The streak of the Murmans running into red hot players continued this week as Antonio Brown went head to head agasints A.J. Green at WR1. Brown had another consistent outing, posting six receptions for 50 yards, but Green dominated the matchup on six catches for 155 yards and a touchdown.

At WR2 Keenan Allen was added to the Murmans (Charles Tillman was dropped) as Roddy White wasn’t able to go and Marques Colston on bye. Allen played well with three receptions for 67 yards. His opponent was Calvin Johnson who also had 155 yards, but had two touchdowns.

Adrian Peterson went head to head with LeSean McCoy and while neither back had as productive a day as expected, McCoy had almost as many rushing yards as AP had total. Reggie Bush took on DeAngelo Williams at RB2. Bush almost hit 100 yards this week and easily outscored Williams, who still doesn’t have a touchdown on the season.

At tight end, Jordan Cameron went against Vernon Davis. Cameron found his way back to the end zone after a few scoreless games, while Davis was held scoreless but did manage 62 yards on four catches.

At flex, Tony Gonzalez got the start against Justin Blackmon. I thought Gonzalez would get a ton of targets this game, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense went heavy on coverage against him, resulting in only four targets and 30 yards. Blackmon had 58 yards on six catches and won the matchup.

The kicker match featured Matt Bryant (Nick Novak was dropped) who had a down day with seven points against Blair Walsh who had limited chances, making his only point after attempt, but missing on a 53 yard field goal attempt.

Jarrell Freeman was dropped for Tamba Hali as the defensive flex. Hali made an impact, posting 20.5 points on five tackles, two and a half sacks and two fumbles forced. Sean Lee was the opponent and made one of the closest matches of the week with 19.3 points on nine tackles and a 33 yard interception return.

Eric Berry was added (Janoris Jenkins dropped) this week for defensive back. Clearly, I thought the Kansas City Chiefs would roll the Houston Texans. Berry defended two passes and had three tackles en route to a pedestrian five points. He went against Patrick Peterson who won the match on five total tackles and one pass defended.

There was no reason to continue with Jason Pierre-Paul so he was released for Cameron Wake. Wake didn’t appear to be fully over his injury, posting one tackle. He went against John Abraham who had a great game, easily winning the match with three tackles, two sacks and two fumbles forced.

D’Qwell Jackson started against Luke Kuechly. Neither linebacker had a strong game, with Keuchly’s three tackles and one pass defended outscored Jackson’s four total tackles. Kuechly won the match by a point.

The big days from Green and Johnson combined with the poor play of Cutler were the mitigating factors in this loss for the Murmans. With the loss, the Thurman Murmans drop to a tie for second place (4-3, fourth overall) and due to a loss by first place Password Is Taco, Macon Bacon now shares first place with Password Is Taco, each at 5-2.

As always, I welcome your comments. If you think I’m wrong, I’m willing to listen. Just back it up with some facts and solid evidence. Thanks for reading and good luck this season.
