2013 Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: C Martin Hanzal

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Coyotes are not exactly a fantasy hockey powerhouse. The team is currently ranked 11th in the league in scoring (3.1 goals/ game) and 18th in power play percentage (17.1 %).  However, there are still a couple guys worth latching onto from the desert and one of these underrated stars is C Martin Hanzal.

Hanzal has already tallied eight points through the first 10 games, including two goals and six assists. He only racked up 23 points (11 goals and 12 assists) in the lockout-shortened 2012 season, so his offensive explosion this year has been a welcomed sight for fantasy fans.

Hanzal has benefited greatly from playing on the same line with star RW Radim Vrbata. The fact that the center plays on same line with such a natural goal scorer only adds to Hanzal’s fantasy value. All Hanzal has to do is consistently feed Vrbata the puck and he should have no problem rivaling his career-high of 27 assists this winter.

The center is worth adding in all fantasy formats, especially while he is on such a hot-streak. He is only owned in 37% of CBS leagues and can be a great addition to any team desperate for a contributing middleman. This will likely be the last week he is still on the waiver wire, so grab the center now before your competition scoops him up.
