Fantasy Football: Week 8 Flex Plays At Receiver

Johnson

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

This week is a very important week in the fantasy football season. First off, there are many teams with many important fantasy football players sitting out due to their bye week in Week 8. Also, the injury bug has hit fantasy land pretty hard during Week 7, knocking players like Doug Martin out for at least a few weeks.

Because of this, the flex play and who you play at this spot becomes even more important. In weeks such as these, you have to really look at matchups and availability in your fantasy league. The wide receiver position is by far the deepest out of any position in all fantasy leagues, and owners have to really jump on this, especially in Week 8. Here is my list of three guys that I think will do very well for your fantasy team and hopefully help you pull off a win.

Brandon LaFell:
One player that has been hit or miss in this fantasy football season has been Carolina Panthers receiver Brandon LaFell. Opposite of the No. 1 receiver on the team, Steve Smith, one would think that LaFell would get many good looks in every game. In his Week 8 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, look for LaFell to have a very nice week. Tampa Bay let No. 3 receiver, and now No. 1 due to injuried Harry Douglas, go for 149 yards and a touchdown against the Bucs’ defense. Look for LaFell to put up solid numbers against the Bucs this Thursday night and be a good WR2 and flex play option.

Stevie Johnson:
Fantasy football owners love either a shoot-out or a high scoring game. This means points, points and more points for their players. This week, the Buffalo Bills will take on the New Orleans Saints. If the Bills want to have any chance to stay in this game, it will be their receivers, not their running backs, who need to have a big game. The player that I feell will have the best game for the Bills will be Stevie Johnson. Look for Johnson to get a few looks deep this week and to break one or two runs for big yardage and possibly a touchdown.

Harry Douglas:
Harry Douglas has been the talk of Atlanta and one of the big pick-ups on the waiver wire this week in fantasy football. Harry Douglas is the healthiest of the Atlanta Falcons’ receivers. Many people did not believe that he could carry the load, but he proved them wrong last week. Look for Douglas to have another big day against the Arizona Cardinals. The Falcons’ running game is not consistent, so that means they have to move the ball in the air. Douglas will see many targets in Week 8, and should be another solid play as a flex and even a WR2.
