If you watched Week 8’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions, it was a game to never forget. For fantasy football managers, it was either a dream come true if you owned some of the star players or it was an early Halloween nightmare if you played against them.
If you are a Matthew Stafford owner, this game was the Holy Grail of reasons why you have to love Calvin Johnson.
Johnson showed everyone that he would make a second string, high school quarterback into a NFL starter just by throwing to him and only him. When you mix him with the likes of Stafford, it turns Johnson into not only a Pro Bowl type quarterback, but a certified fantasy football stud.
If you drafted Stafford late in your fantasy football draft, you did so because of weeks like Week 8. Stafford passed for 488 yards in the game against Dallas, with 329 of those passing yards going to Johnson. Look at the week that Johnson missed where Stafford could hardly move the football, let alone put up the points and fantasy numbers that he did in Week 8 with Johnson in the lineup.
A friend of mine called me up right after the end of the Lions and Cowboys game on Sunday. He said that the final play was “the sickest thing that he ever saw in football!” I told him, as I tell you that Stafford and Johnson are the sickest passing combination in all of fantasy football, possibly the sickest thing as a fantasy duo of all time. Anyone who feels differently, just look at the numbers and see it for yourself.
