COVER - John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

In Week 9 of the fantasy football season, it seems that almost everyone is on a bye. There are six teams off this week, and with that, some big name defenses won’t be suiting up. There are always options on the waiver wire, though, and it won’t take owners long for owners to find replacements. So before setting your lineup this Sunday, here are the top five fantasy football defenses for Week 9.

Here is a look at this weekend’s matchups.

5. Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys – The quarterback carousel continues in Minnesota, as the team has decided to roll with Christian Ponder in Week 9 against the Boys. Unfortunately for the former first round pick, Dallas is tied for fifth in the league with 11 interceptions and the ball-hawking secondary will frustrate Ponder all game. He has turned the ball over six times in limited action this season and the odds are that he will have a couple more this weekend.

Week 9 Matchup: vs. Minnesota Vikings

4. New England Patriots

New England Patriots – A couple years ago, Pittsburgh versus New England would have looked like a shootout, but recently both of these offenses have regressed to the middle of the league. Pittsburgh, in particular, has really struggled as of late. The team is 28th in the league is scoring (17.9 points/game) and has turned the ball over three times in the last two weeks.

New England, on the other hand, has been carried by their defense this season. The Pats have forced 16 turnovers already this year to go along with a team-total of 24 sacks. New England should have no problem making plays against a porous Pittsburgh offensive line and a three-turnover day isn’t out of the question for this aggressive defense.

Week 9 Matchup: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

3. New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints - Against Buffalo last weekend, New Orleans racked up four sacks, one interception, and recovered two fumbles. The Saints have now averaged four sacks per contest over the last three weeks and have forced five total turnovers. In a favorable defensive matchup, the Saints travel to the Meadowlands this week to take on New York and their turnover-prone quarterback, Geno Smith. The rookie has turned the ball over 14 times already this season and it could get out of hand if the Saints go up big early.

Week 9 Matchups - @ New York Jets

2. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks – The Legion of Boom is among the top defenses in fantasy every week. The unit has picked off 13 passes, registered 26 sacks, and forced 13 fumbles already this season. The Hawks are also leading the NFL with 21 turnovers and will have plenty of chances to add to that total against a young Tampa offense.

Week 9 Matchup: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1. Kansas City Chiefs

KCDefense
John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs - KC is leading the league with 36 sacks and the team has shockingly already scored three defense touchdowns. The team’s pass rush has been relentless this season and will face off against a Buffalo team that has been sacked 13 times in the last three games. The Bills will have a tough time moving the ball against an elite KC defense and I fully expect Justin Houston and the boys to get their fill this Sunday.

Week 9 Matchup: @ Buffalo Bills
