Fantasy Football Q&A For Week 10

Week 10
Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

Another week of Fantasy Football is in the books. Many fantasy owners have to be relieved that Week Nine is now over, especially those who owned Calvin Johnson or any Denver Broncos players.

For this week’s addition of “Q&A” there are many hot topics that are being discussed. I got many questions sent to me this week on what to do about the Aaron Rodgers and Darren Sproles injury situations. I also received many questions about the running back situation for the Carolina Panthers moving forward for fantasy managers.

The waiver wire has been a big topic of questions this week. Many of you have asked which players coming off of the injured reserve will have an impact on your fantasy teams when they return to the lineup. Also, others asked about hot waiver wire additions like Nick Foles and Case Keenum and if they will be solid plays for not only Week 10, but for the rest of the season.

As I say to all the owners that send me questions every week, I do not own a crystal ball nor do I own any sports book from Marty Mcfly. I give you the same advice that I would give my brother or my close friends. As always, if your gut tells you something different, go with it.

Again, thank you all for the questions every week. If you would like to start sending questions my way, please feel free to use my Twitter, Facebook, or Google+ links listed below. Good luck this week and I hope that these answers will help you find fantasy football success! Now, onto the questions!

Drop Mike Tolbert for Mario Manningham? – Anthony

Manningham
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

That is a great question Anthony. If Jonathan Stewart was going to still be out, I would say no, but Stewart is back so I think it is time to drop Mike Tolbert. Tolbert may get some goal line looks and if you need a running back then yes, keep him over Mario Manningham. However especially if you need a receiver, I like the addition of Manningham to your Fantasy team. I feel that Manningham is going to be hungry to prove that he belongs in the starting lineup, especially after the injuries over the past two seasons. Look for Manningham to help open things up for the San Francisco 49ers, maybe not in the first week back but definitely by his second start.

Start This Week: Nick Foles or Cam Newton? – John

Foles
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

I never thought I would say this John, especially after the start that Nick Foles left the game because of a concussion, but I would start Foles over Cam Newton in Week 10. Look, I believe that going forward Newton is the better option. Newton can run and is a pretty good passer. However, Newton and the Carolina Panthers are traveling on the road this week to play the red hot San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers will do everything they can to keep Newton in check. As for Foles, he is going to play a banged up Green Bay Packers team and will look to have another huge weekend. Maybe not the weekend he had against the Oakland Raiders, but still a nice game never the less.

If Darren Sproles Does Not Play, Who Could I Pick Up? – Snap

Sproles
Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

Oh Snap, no flex play question this week? It’s a shame! So far, I have not heard if Darren Sproles will be cleared to play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Let’s assume that he will sit out at least one week with his concussion. If you are in need of a short-term solution at running back, I would go with Rashad Jennings. Jennings will be the starting running back for the Oakland Raiders until Darren McFadden returns to the lineup. In last week’s game after he came in for McFadden, Jennings had a season-high 102 yards and a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. Look for Jennings to have a nice game in Week 10 against the New York Giants.

Aaron Rodgers Out, James Jones Even Worth Playing in Week 10? – Pete

Jones
Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Pete this is a really tough question. I know many people’s Fantasy Football team will be greatly affected by the loss of Aaron Rodgers. The Green Bay Packers will start Seneca Wallace in place of Rodgers. Wallace looked lost out there on Monday Night Football. I expect Wallace to have a better game than he did against the Chicago Beers, but it is scary. I feel that James Jones would be a nice flex play option against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, I would not bank on James Jones lighting it up without Aaron Rodgers under center.

Keenum Worth Picking Up and Starting in a 2-Quarterback League? – Jay

Keenum
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Oh, the Cinderella Story that is the Houston Texans quarterback Case Keenum has taken the Fantasy Football world by storm after his performance in Week Ten. Many people have asked if he is a good addition for your Fantasy Football team. I just do not think that Keenum is the reincarnation of Brett Favre. However, I feel that he is a good pick up to your team for Week Ten. The Texans play the Arizona Cardinals and Keenum should have his chances to show off again in this game. In a two-quarterback league, I think he is a very nice addition. For me, it is just so tough to trust a guy who at the beginning of the season was a third string quarterback. Like I said, I would roll with him this week, especially in a two-quarterback league.

Given the Situation in Denver, Start Broncos’ Defense in Week 10? – Pat

Broncos
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

I, just like you Pat, thought that the Denver Broncos' defense would have a great year in 2013. So far, this has not necessarily been the case. The Broncos have been missing some key players on their defense, which has hurt their Fantasy production. In Week 10, the Broncos will be playing without their head coach John Fox. Also, the Broncos will be playing a much-improved San Diego Chargers offense that is very dangerous. I look for this to be a high scoring game and would recommend sitting the Broncos defense this week. If I were you, I would try to add the Tennessee Titans defense who plays the weak Jacksonville Jaguars and their now Justin Blackmon-less offense.

Traded Eric Decker for Keenan Allen, Right Move? – Anthony

Allen
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Anthony, yet another great question! You and I discussed this trade and trust me, you need to feel really good about it. Personally, I think Eric Decker is a home-run ball on your Fantasy Football team. One week he will have 100+ yards and two touchdowns, and then he will have a mediocre 30 yards with no touchdown game for the Denver Broncos. On the other hand, Keenan Allen has turned into Philip Rivers’ favorite target. Allen will be the focal point of the San Diego Chargers’ offense. In Week Ten, when both of their teams play each other, I feel that you will be very happy with the deal you made, especially when Allen has a huge game and Decker is just being one of the guys Peyton Manning throws the ball to during the game.

Starting Runningback: Ray Rice or Le’Veon Bell? – Mark

Bell
Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

I am glad to see Mark that even though you are a Pittsburgh Steelers fan that you asked this very important question instead of just going with your heart. Ray Rice, as you know, has had a very disappointing season to his standards. Rice and the Baltimore Ravens have a potentially decent matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10, especially with the Bengals recent injury problems. Le’Veon Bell I feel is the guy to go with this week for your Fantasy team. Bell has been fairly consistent for the Pittsburgh Steelers since he returned from his foot injury. Bell will be facing a Buffalo Bills defense that running backs like BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Giovani Bernard had pretty good games. I can see the Steelers bouncing back, having a good week, and Bell being the benefactor of some goal line carries.

Picked Up Michael Crabtree. When Can I Expect His Impact? – Mike

Crabtree
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

I think that is a great decision you made Mike! Michael Crabtree had such a major impact on the San Francisco 49ers’ offense last season. From all of the reports that I have read, look for Crabtree to be back in Week 12 when 49ers take on the Washington Redskins. If he plays in this game, he has a pretty good chance to have an impact right away. The Redskins pass defense is not very good and the 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick loves throwing the ball his way. By adding Crabtree, you just added a No. 1 receiver to your team at a time when your Fantasy team will need it the most; during the playoff run.

With Andrew Hawkins Returning, Which Bengals’ Player's Value Drops? – Doug

Hawkins
Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

This was a question that I did not see coming this week, Doug. With the return of Andrew Hawkins, this will have an affect on some Cincinnati Bengals offensive players. One player that it will not affect is A.J. Green. Green is a monster and only and injury could slow this guy down. Marvin Jones may be slightly affected in the open field on long-down passing situations, however I think Jones and Andy Dalton have established some good chemistry down in the red zone. This makes Jones still very valuable. I think the one person Hawkins is going to affect the most will be Dalton. With Hawkins back, it gives the quarterback just another weapon to throw the ball to and because of that, Dalton’s value could definitely be on the rise.

Start at Flex in Week 10: Maurice Jones-Drew or Antonio Brown? – Chuck

Jones-Drew
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Little brother, this may be the hardest question I received all week! Even though Maurice Jones-Drew has had a very rough Fantasy season this year and Antonio Brown’s Pittsburgh Steelers are not playing “Steelers football”, these both are good plays in Week 10. MJD has a good matchup against the Tennessee Titans who surrendered 127 yards on the ground to Zac Stacy in Week 9. Jones-Drew will be leaned on heavily, especially since Justin Blackmon will be suspended for the rest of the season. Brown also has a very good match up against a Buffalo Bills secondary that has surrendered some big games to wide-outs this season. Still, I would go with MJD. I think he will find the end zone at least once and total over 100 yards in the game.

Andre Brown's Impact in Week 10? – Dom

Brown
Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

I tell you, that is one heck of a question good job me! I believe that Andre Brown will have an instant impact on the New York Giants offense in Week 10 as well as your Fantasy Football team. The Giants have had no idea who their starting running back would be for most of the season. The team had to go and pick up Brandon Jacobs and Peyton Hillis to replace David Wilson and Brown. Yes, Jacobs and Hillis have played very well since their acquisitions, but Brown is going to be the man in New York. Brown was slated to be the starter in training camp and will show everyone why the Giants picked him over Wilson. With the Giants playing the Oakland Raiders in Week 10, look for Brown to have a nice game and for him to only get better and better as the season moves on.
