As the Buffalo Bills’ season dwindled down to just about zero hope in their most recent loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, fantasy football owners looked at C.J. Spiller and again wondered what was up with his production?
Against the Steelers, Spiller only received eight carries in the game and rushed for just 23 yards without a score. Spiller has now gone four games in a row without getting in the end zone, and has one score in his last nine games.
Wait, the Bills have only played nine games this season.
Check that, Spiller has only gotten into the end zone once this season. On top of that, he has averaged a measly 11.3 carries per game on the year. Granted, there have been times where he hasn’t been completely healthy. But, even over his last three games he’s averaged just over eight carries per game.
In his three big games this season, Spiller has had a long rush of at least 46 yards. To make sense of that stat, Spiller has not been effective on every down. He’s taken it for a good chunk of yardage occasionally, but aside from that — not much.
This is not good for fantasy owners who selected him high up in this year’s drafts. So, what to do with him at this point? Get rid of him. Many leagues’ trade deadline is this coming Friday, November 15th. I would begin assessing some deals involving Spiller and start getting a few offers out there.
The Bills’ season is pretty much over and Spiller isn’t touching the ball consistently. What’s there to like? Not a whole lot. Get rid of him now, before you’re stuck with him for the year.
