Week 11 Fantasy Football Dark Horse Sleeper: WR Eddie Royal

By Adam McGill

After hauling in five touchdowns through the first two games of the 2013 fantasy football season, San Diego Chargers WR Eddie Royal went into a serious slump. The wideout had four straight games with fewer than 45 receiving yards and was starting to have injuries pile up.

The receiver was limited with a toe injury in Week 10 as well, and he simply didn’t look healthy. He wasn’t getting out of his breaks smoothly and was having problems gaining separation downfield. Regardless of his poor performance in Week 10 (36 yards, 0 TDs), Royal has still hauled in two touchdowns over the last three games.

Royal is finally healthy and the wideout is ready to get back to work this weekend. He has become one of the favorite downfield targets for QB Philip Rivers this season and will get several more targets per game now that he is healthy. Additionally, the emergence of WR Keenan Allen will only give Royal more one-on-one coverage on the outside and will help the veteran post better numbers over the second half.

San Diego faces the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and the game could quickly become a one-sided affair for the Bolts. Miami was just beat by a winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad, so the team obviously has some problems on both sides of the ball. San Diego’s offense is clicking right now and the team should have no problem scoring against the Phins.

Royal will be worth a spot start as a third wideout this week in all formats. He is healthy and ready to contribute again for fantasy owners, so make sure to get him in your lineup for Week 11.
