Ray Rice and his fantasy football owners have had a very rough season. Rice was drafted high in all fantasy drafts in August and was expected to be the player he has been since he became the starter for the Baltimore Ravens. However, since Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins, Rice has not had the weeks that his owners expected. Rice has been dealing with a hip injury this season and just does not seem to have that same burst anymore.
Going into Week 11 it has been reported that Bernard Pierce will be getting more carries. This has been something that needed to happen for the past few weeks. Rice is clearly not 100 percent, but Pierce hasn’t exactly been a lightning rod that the Ravens’ offense needs either. Coach John Harbaugh says that he is going to be playing the “hot hand” from here on out. This could be bad for Rice owners and huge for anyone who is looking to pick up a running back going into the fantasy football playoff stretch.
I know, all of you are thinking that Pierce is averaging below three yards per carry so far this season. However, Pierce has a much better chance of rolling with his opportunity than Rice does this season.
For fantasy football managers it is all about opportunity. If Pierce gets the chance that coach Harbaugh says he will in the games to come I believe that he may finally overtake Rice as the primary option for the Baltimore Ravens this season. This does not mean that Pierce will get 20-30 chances a game, but I think that if Pierce can show his talents with this opportunity he will be the guy you want to own from the Baltimore Ravens’ backfield.
