Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Jarius Wright

I feel bad for Adrian Peterson; he’s undoubtedly best player on his team, but the Minnesota Vikings haven’t done much to build a supporting cast. The quarterback situation is a mess, one week it’s Christian Ponder, the next it’s Matt Cassel with Josh Freeman playing in games. The team tried to improve the passing situation by signing Greg Jennings, but he’s been a bust so far. Rookie wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson isn’t living up to the first-round pick the Vikings spent on him, but that relates back to the quarterbacks’ play.

However, there was a silver lining on Sunday when Jarius Wright had 69 yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings went on to lose to the Seattle Seahawks 41-20. The Vikings pulled Ponder in the fourth quarter for Cassel, but that didn’t matter to Wright, as he caught a touchdown from both quarterbacks. It was a nice breakout game for the No. 3 wide receiver, filling in for the injured Jennings.

This season, no Vikings wide receiver has played well. Jennings had a season-best 21 fantasy points in Week 4. Simpson had two games where he surpassed 10 points.

Now, this 18-point game for Wright could be just a flash in the pan, but I don’t think that’s the case. Next week, the Vikings play the Green Bay Packers, a team that gave up 279 passing yards to the New York Giants. Granted, Eli Manning is a better quarterback than whoever starts for the Vikings.

Next week will be a desperate week for fantasy owners with the teams that are on their bye. A.J Green, DeSean Jackson, Riley Cooper (yes, I’m including Cooper here despite his three points), Percy Harvin and Golden Tate are all off. Wright is available in almost all of ESPN leagues. So if you have one of those receivers, I would keep Wright in consideration.
