Fantasy Football: Look for Shane Vereen to be a Playoff Monster

Vereen

My NFL-loving grandfather used to say “if is the biggest word in the dictionary!” There is one person that this applies to more than anyone I can think of in all of fantasy football right now. If Stevan Ridley did not fumble the ball as much as he did, he would be the starting running back for the New England Patriots.

However, since he does fumble the ball, Shane Vereen will now have that job for the rest of the season. See, it’s basic cause and effect!

Vereen is going to have a huge rest of the fantasy football season. I hope that you were lucky enough to add him to your roster when you had the chance. I know in one of my fantasy leagues, the team that is right behind me dropped him last week! I have no idea why someone would do such a thing, but I snatched him up quickly. I hope that you did not do that same terrible mistake to your team.

Vereen is the new Darren Sproles. He is getting the majority of the snaps in the New England backfield. He is a threat in the passing game and in the running game. For a team like the Patriots that likes to throw the ball, Vereen is a very dangerous weapon.

For those of you that do not know much about him, this is what was expected out of him at the start of the season. However, Vereen went down with an injury and did not return until the Patriots’ game against the Carolina Panthers. Ridley “earned” the starting job while Vereen was out, but as soon as Vereen came back, Ridley has shut down and just doesn’t seem like he wants to be the starter any more.

If you are lucky enough to have your fantasy team headed into the playoffs in your league and you also picked up Vereen for your bench, you did a very good thing! Vereen will be a very dangerous player moving forward, and I cannot stress enough that he will be the most dangerous weapon out of the Patriots’ backfield for the remainder of the season.
