Fantasy Football: Keep Starting Carson Palmer — For Now

Carson Palmer

It’s been an amazing fantasy football run for quarterback Carson Palmer, and it should continue – at least for one more week.

The Arizona Cardinals signal-caller has put up tremendous numbers lately, throwing for multiple touchdowns in five consecutive games and topping 300 yards in three straight. That success should continue this week in the first round of most fantasy football playoffs. He gets the St. Louis Rams at home, a defense that has allowed more than 325 yards per game over the last three contests.

You can even discount Palmer’s pair of interceptions and fumble lost in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, who were bringing tremendous pressure all game, forcing Palmer to leave the pocket all day and to make several ill-advised passes. We haven’t seen that kind of pressure from the Rams, and Palmer should have time to be a bit more comfortable this week.

Those who have a bad matchup with their starting QB – or are just in streaming mode after an injury – should be confident in Palmer for Week 14. However, it might be the end of the road for him after that. The Cards get tough road matchups with the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks in the following weeks, and you’ll probably be able to find a better play.

But let’s cross that bridge when the time comes. For now, feel good about playing Palmer in the first round of the playoffs, and worry about what may happen in the next few weeks for a later time.
