Coach Marc Trestman has already come out and said that he will roll with Josh McCown this Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys in favor of a still-healing Jay Cutler, making McCown a desirable fantasy quarterback for Week 14.
When the Chicago Bears take on the Cowboys this Monday night, McCown will be trying to throw for 350 yards and two touchdowns for his third consecutive game, and he’ll have the opportunity to do so against one of the leagues worst pass defenses: the Cowboys have given up the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, and they’re 31st in the NFL, allowing 295 passing yards per game.
McCown has scored at least 12 fantasy points in every start he has made this season, and he’s scored at least 18 fantasy points in three out of five starts. The 34-year old journeyman quarterback has a strong enough arm that’s capable of making pretty much any throw on the field.
He’s reasonably accurate, he has excellent touch on his deep ball and most importantly, he understands that he has elite offensive weapons surrounding him and has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to give those weapons opportunities to make big plays.
In the Bears’ matchup last week against the Minnesota Vikings, McCown completed two long touchdowns to Alshon Jeffery, and both were spectacular catches — the type of catches made by elite receivers. When the Bears’ offensive weapons put themselves in a position to make a play, McCown has shown that he’s capable of finding them to give them a shot at doing something great.
McCown is available in 85 percent of ESPN leagues and in 61 percent of Yahoo! leagues. I like him over Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Colin Kaepernick, Eli Manning, Andy Dalton and Matt Ryan.
