There were many colorful adjectives that probably came out of all of Rob Gronkowski owners’ mouths when they found out that he went down with a knee injury and did not return to his Week 14 contest against the Cleveland Browns. I will be clean and not put those words in here, but you all get the drift.
So, what do the owners of The Gronk do now, especially if this injury is for the rest of the regular season?
Well, you are going to have to go out and find yourselves a tight end that is available that could help you win until he comes back (if he does at all). Here are two tight ends that I feel you should try to get right now that may still be available in your fantasy leagues. These guys are not Gronkowski, but I feel could help you out down the stretch.
Green is, in my opinion, the next big thing in terms of tight ends in the NFL. This guy is slowly being groomed to take over for Antonio Gates. We all know that San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers likes to throw to tight ends. I know it is tough to try and play a guy that splits time with a future Hall-of-Fame tight end like Gates. However, in the last three games prior to Week 14, Green has had either 80 yards or a touchdown in those three weeks. I think adding him to your team can definitely help you fill the gap left by Gronkowski. Green may not be available in your fantasy football leagues, but if he is, put in a bid for him quickly!
Pitta was injured at the beginning of the season and just returned in Week 14. He has been a huge weapon for the Baltimore Ravens since he became the starting tight end. The Ravens have missed him this season; his return will be welcomed by quarterback Joe Flacco. In his first game back, Pitta had six receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. Look for Pitta to only get stronger as the season goes on. If you have Gronkowski, Pitta has a very good chance to still be on your league’s waiver wire. Go out and get him quickly, because after Pitta, there are not many good options left.
