2013 Fantasy Hockey: Valeri Nichushkin Heating Up In Rookie Year

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

During the 2013 fantasy hockey season, there has been several rookies putting together respectable campaigns. San Jose Sharks C Tomas Hertl has already racked up 23 points in his first year, while Colorado Avalanche C Nathan MacKinnon has 17 points of his own.

Another rookie that has quietly produced in recent weeks for fantasy hockey fans has been RW Valeri Nichushkin of the Dallas Stars.

The 10th overall selection in the 2013 draft, Nichushkin amassed just two points through the first month of the season. He was on the verge of being sent down after his slow start and many fantasy owners refused to take a shot on him. However, the rookie has really stepped up over the last month.

Nichushkin has racked up an insane 14 points (four goals/nine assists) over the last 15 contests alone and all of a sudden has 15 points on the year. The teenager has earned more ice time with his strong play and has not disappointed since joining the team’s top line. He has formed a strong chemistry with line mates, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn, and the rookie has seemingly cemented his spot on the right side.

Nichushkin isn’t an All-Star just yet, but the forward is still  having a very productive fantasy debut. He is collecting a couple points per week and has matured into a low-end right wing to start in all formats.
