The fantasy football waiver wire heading into the NFL’s Week 15 appears barren for owners looking to add another dimension to their team. The New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman‘s value has now skyrocketed, and he is the hidden fantasy football waiver wire diamond in the rough.
All fantasy football players are knowledgeable about the injury to the Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski as he will not return to another game this season. While it is a huge hit for the Patriots and Gronk’s fantasy owners, Edelman will benefit greatly from the injury. Without Gronk, Tom Brady needs a new favorite target to throw to and Edelman will be his top option.
Edelman may not have the most outstanding stats for a wide receiver, but in the last three weeks he has become fantasy relevant.
Since Week 12 against the Denver Broncos, Edelman has caught 24 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns. In each of those three games, Edelman has given his fantasy owners at least 10 points and even recorded a high of 23 in his Week 12 game.
Edelman has established himself as a solid option for Brady and will gather even more targets now that the big-time tight end is out for the season.
If you find yourself in a PPR league, Edelman is fantasy gold. While recording over 100 yards in both Week 12 and 13, Edelman did it on nine catches in both weeks. A sure-handed receiver like Edelman is what Brady is looking for, and his targets along with catches will continue to pile up and give his fantasy owners a horde of points.
Heading into a Week 15 match-up against the Miami Dolphins, Edelman and the Patriots have a tough task to overcome. Before Sunday’s game, the Dolphins had only allowed four passing touchdowns since their bye week in Week 6. Ben Roethlisberger changed that Sunday as he was able to throw for three touchdowns and show that the Dolphins’ defense is susceptible to the pass.
With Brady at the helm, there’s a good chance the Dolphins defense will once again allow passing touchdowns and Edelman is the man to haul in the benefits.
Edelman can be put in the category of WR2 or flex position play and even higher in PPR leagues. Edelman is only owned in 37 percent of leagues and is now worth the pickup as your team moves forward into the playoffs.
