When Memphis Grizzlies C Marc Gasol went down last week with a sprained MCL, the fantasy basketball value of C Kosta Koufos instantly increased. The former Ohio State star walked into the starting lineup and he became a decent low-end option in deeper formats due to the extra minutes per game.

However, no one expected the five-year veteran to fill the box score like this. Over the last five games alone, Koufos has averaged an impressive 11.6 points to go along with 11.8 rebounds and two blocks. These are staggering numbers to find on the waiver wire at this point in the season.

Koufos has never been a guy to average 20 points a game, but he has always been a steady defender. He knows how to box out opposing players in the paint and he should be able to grab a minimum of nine boards each game. Additionally, the center’s seven-foot frame is very difficult to shoot over, so he will be able to block a handful of shots each contest as well.

Koufos has been outperforming some of the better big men in fantasy and it is somewhat shocking that he is still available in around 40% of ESPN leagues. He will be able to give fantasy fans a reliable number of rebounds and blocks per game, so if he is still sitting on the wire in your league, pick him up already.
