The San Diego Chargers pulled off the upset and defeated the Denver Broncos, 27-20. Keenan Allen was the superstar for the Chargers. He caught two passes for 29 yards, both for touchdowns, and this was Allen’s second two-touchdown performance in as many weeks.
It’s clear that Allen is the No. 1 option for Philip Rivers, despite Eddie Royal and Vincent Brown catching three passes each. Allen has only five receptions in his last two games, but he is making the most of those catches. He has 63 catches and seven touchdowns for the season and is in consideration for Rookie of the Year.
Allen did suffer a shoulder injury in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants but showed no signs of it bothering him on Thursday and will be fine going forward.
The lack of targets on Thursday should not be a cause for concern. Rivers only threw the ball 20 times against the Broncos. Allen’s numbers will likely increase in Week 16 when the Chargers face the Oakland Raiders. He is surprisingly still available in about 20 percent of ESPN.com leagues. If he’s on the waiver wire in your league, add him immediately. The Raiders allow 23.8 fantasy points and have given up 15 touchdowns to opposing wide receivers so far this season.
The Chargers still have a shot at an AFC Wild Card spot and will be playing until the final week. They are an explosive offense, averaging 396.0 yards per game. Allen is a must-own and a must-start wide receiver for Week 16. There aren’t many receivers performing at this level available on the waiver wire. He is a great addition to help lead you to a championship.
