Despite struggling mightily earlier in the season, the Philadelphia Eagles have come on very strong recently. They’ve won five games in a row and coach Chip Kelly‘s decision to hand Nick Foles the keys to the offense is looking better every week. A huge portion of the credit obviously goes to the offense but the Eagles’ defense also deserves some of the spotlight. After looking like one of the weakest units in the league not so long ago, Philadelphia’s defense has turned things right around. It’s far from perfect and still a work in progress but there’s no denying its recent improvement.
Those in need of a fantasy defense should take note as well. Philadelphia D/ST has scored at least eight fantasy points in six straight games and while it might not be putting up Kansas City Chiefs numbers, it’s definitely been serviceable. This week it has an especially favourable matchup in the Minnesota Vikings, who will be starting Matt Cassel and playing without Adrian Peterson. The Eagles should have no trouble rattling Cassel and forcing him to make mistakes. Without having to worry about stacking the box to contain the game’s best running back, they’ll be able to spread themselves a little more freely. They love to blitz so we’re likely to see Cassel get sacked, knocked down and rushed a fair amount in this game.
The Eagles’ offense won’t have any trouble keeping the ball and moving the chains against a porous Vikings defense, so Philly’s D should get plenty of rest and stay fresh throughout the game. If you aren’t feeling great about your team’s defense this week I would strongly consider picking up and plugging Philadelphia.
