If only Roddy White had been given a proper opportunity to heal earlier this season. I’ve ranted and raved about how poorly the Atlanta Falcons‘ coaches handled the situation so I won’t get into it again. Fact is, though, he could have been making a fantasy impact a long time ago instead of just starting to come on now. Still, the past is the past and obviously nothing is more important than the fantasy semi-finals right now.
His lost season aside, White is finally heating up for fantasy owners and it’s coming at a crucial time. He had eight catches for 74 yards last week and 10 for 143 the week before. He’s finally starting to click with Matt Ryan again, now that he’s mostly healthy and able to run and cut properly. He has an attractive matchup this week as the Falcons take on the Washington Redskins, who’ve been poor defensively all season. It’s possible he’ll see a good amount of Redskins corner DeAngelo Hall but that shouldn’t make too much of a difference. When healthy, White is one of the best possession-receivers in the league. He knows how to get open in short space and he’ll go to work against whoever’s covering him.
Although he’s been a shell of himself for most of this season, White is finally looking a little more like the player he was last year. Hopefully it was just his injuries and not his age that slowed him this time around but either way he’s back to being good enough to warrant a spot in your lineup on a weekly basis. If he can come through this week it’ll go a long way towards erasing fantasy owners’ unhappy memories of him from this season. Keep him in your lineup and let his atonement continue.
