While many fantasy seasons ended in Week 17, there are still plenty of fantasy owners waiting until the end of Week 17 to crown a league champion. There is no Thursday or Monday night game so the winner will be decided at the end of the day Sunday. As a result, owners are still looking at the waiver wire to fill in for injured players or those who have a good chance of being benched.
One of the biggest pickups has been running back James Starks. The backup for Eddie Lacy has been added in almost 600 NFL.com leagues and an increase of 1.4 percent of ESPN.com leagues. It’s a safe bet to assume that most of the owners adding Starks also have Lacy on their team.
Lacy left the Week 16 games with an ankle injury. He was limited in the practices leading up to the game and ended up aggravating it. Head Coach Mike McCarthy said Lacy won’t practice until Thursday so with his status for Week 17 up in the air, owners are making sure they have the next back in line.
Lacy has been stellar in his last three games, scoring 57 fantasy points. The Green Bay Packers take on divisional rival Chicago Bears in a game that will decide the NFC North winner. The Bears allow the most fantasy points to opposing running backs with 22.6 points per game.
The last time Starks played Chicago he had six carries for 40 yards and a touchdown. If Lacy is ruled out, Starks will get most, if not all, of the carries in the win-or-go-home game.
