There are some names that are linked together in sports history forever. On Sunday, two of these names will meet for possibly the last time as Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will face off in the postseason.
When you think of quarterback greatness throughout NFL history, these two players helped rewrite the record books and set the new standard. When you talk about fantasy football legends, there may not be two better to ever play the game.
For fantasy football playoff managers, this weekend may be the last time that you will ever see these two greats face off against each other. It may be the last time that you ever have to worry about whether you should start Brady or Manning. The answer to this question is not an easy one.
If you look at the two players’ seasons, it is easy to pick the player you should start, and that is Manning. He broke Brady’s single-season passing touchdown record in 2013, and looks poised to get to his third Super Bowl to silence the critics that say he is not a postseason quarterback.
Also, Brady’s Patriots showed last weekend that they are committed to the running game. If that is true again this week, then Manning will have the better game by default and should be the guy to start.
If you examine the two players’ playoff histories, it is Brady that you should start this week. Manning is tied with the most losses in playoff history and has had some terrible games in the playoffs throughout his career. Just look at last season when Manning was in overtime against the Baltimore Ravens — he threw an interception at a crucial time at home to lose the game.
Brady has that running game to lean on now. That will cause the Broncos to be more prepared to stop the running game, which should open up the passing lanes for Brady. If you were to look at it in that way, Brady would be the man to start.
Either way you look at it, you have quite possibly the two greatest pocket passers to ever play the game. Whichever quarterback you choose to start this weekend, you will be making the right choice. Come on, did you actually think I would pick against Brady or Manning? That would be crazy!
