When Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne went down with a torn ACL on Monday Night Football against the San Diego Chargers, fantasy football fans instantly moved WR T.Y. Hilton up their rankings. The wideout has built a rather strong rapport with QB Andrew Luck throughout his career, and as predicted, it didn’t take Hilton long to warrant the targets of a number one wideout.
Two weeks after Wayne’s season-ending injury, Hilton hauled in a jaw-dropping 121 yards and three touchdowns against the Houston Texans. He added seven receptions for 131 yards the very next game and quickly became a household name.
Hilton slowed down a little after his two-game hot-streak, but the speedster has absolutely exploded in the playoffs for the Colts. He hauled in 13 balls for a staggering 224 yards with two touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wildcard round of the playoffs. The following game, in the team’s 43-22 loss to the New England Patriots, Hilton similarly hauled in 103 yards on four receptions. These are Pro Bowl fantasy numbers.
It is still officially unclear if Wayne will return or not next season, but either way Hilton has earned his stripes as the new number one fantasy wideout in Indy. He will be the primary weapon downfield for Luck to look for and T.Y. will get plenty of chances to haul in bombs next season.
Hilton will likely be drafted within the top-25 wideouts in all 2014 formats. He may not have the consistency of most number one wideouts, but he will be worth grabbing as a WR2 all day long. So if you are looking for a mid-round wideout to take a shot on, make sure to highlight Hilton on your cheat sheet next summer.
