Kendall Wright went under the radar in 2014 because of his lack of touchdowns, changes at quarterback and the involvement of trying to have Chris Johnson return to his former glory. If you overlook Wright for the 2014 season, however, you may be missing out on one of the highest scoring fantasy football wide receivers in the upcoming year.
One of the best things I like about Wright is the fact that he grew in leaps and bounds in just one season. In 2012, Wright finished the year with 64 receptions, 626 receiving yards, four touchdowns and had an average of 41.7 receiving yards a game. Now, those numbers aren’t going to jump out at you as a fantasy football stud. They’re rookie wide receivers who can enter the league and just dominate right away, but Wright wasn’t that type of wide receiver. But those statistics that he accumulated over the 2012 season did prove that he was a factor in the passing game, and that he would be able to have the room to improve and grow. In 2013, he did just that. Wright improved on almost all of his stats from 2012 with 94 receptions, 1,079 receiving yards, two touchdowns and had an average of 67.4 receiving yards a game in 2013.
The biggest concern for Wright was obviously his touchdown total, but that will allow you to steal him in your draft. Wright finished the year tied with Jerrico Cotchery as the 29th highest scoring wide receiver in standard scoring leagues, and that is with only two touchdowns. What I also really liked about Wright from the 2013 season was that fact that he had at least 50 receiving yards in 14 out of 16 games. As long as targets continue to go to Wright, his touchdown total can only go up. If he can record over 1,000 receiving yards next year and finish with seven or eight touchdowns, Wright will be a super sneaky pickup who will pay off with big dividends. One of the biggest factors in the success of Wright will be his quarterback, but I still expect the wide receiver to continue to be heavily involved in the offense.
