Fantasy Basketball: J.J. Hickson Keeps Grabbing Boards

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets were absolutely loaded with big men when the fantasy basketball season tipped off. The team had several big bodies to dominant the rebound category and many owners drafted Kenneth Faried and JaVale McGee to be the team’s primary rebounder.

Lately, though, the big man putting up the best fantasy numbers has been center J.J. Hickson. Hickson has earned a starting spot in Denver’s lineup and he hasn’t disappointed since taking over. Hickson is currently third on the team with 11.8 points per game and is leading the team with 9.2 rebounds. These are quality numbers and are easily worth a starting spot as a utility option.

Hickson has been even more productive over the last couple weeks, though. The veteran has recorded a jaw-droppoing 12.1 rebounds over his last nine games with an 11.8-point average that is eerily similar to his season average. Hickson even grabbed 24 rebounds last Wednesday against the Golden State Warriors and the performance single-handedly won the rebound category for fantasy owners in the previous scoring period.

Hickson has played 33 minutes per game over this nine-game stretch and the 25-year-old has constantly registered the most minutes among all the team’s big men. He has completely overshadowed Faried and McGee this season and has become the team’s best fantasy big.

Hickson will continue to post near double-doubles the rest of the way, so don’t be afraid to start him as much as possible.
