Daily Fantasy Basketball News For 1/28: Key Injuries

Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden will sit out tonight against the San Antonio Spurs with a bruised thumb — much to the chagrin of daily fantasy players. Harden, who typically plays like a man on a mission against the Spurs, leaves the Rockets looking to Terrance Jones and Dwight Howard to pick up the slack.

Harden’s injury does not bode well for the shooting guard position tonight across daily fantasy sites, as he was the most likely to exceed value despite his high price.

Harden’s absence means you should automatically upgrade Jones at the PF spot, but does not necessarily indicate an upgrade on Howard, who can not be counted on to make shots no matter who he is on the court with.

Here are some players to consider at SG with Harden’s absence in order of value for cost.

Rodney Stuckey, Detroit Pistons

Victor Oladipo, Orlando Magic

Lance Stephenson, Indiana Pacers

Wesley Mathews, Portland Trail Blazers

Stuckey has been coming off the bench for Detroit since returning from injury and losing his starting role to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, but has not let the events affect his play, and is likely to far exceed his cheap price in salary cap leagues.

Oladipo is cheaper than his Magic teammate Aaron Affalo yet continues to out-perform and will do so again tonight against Detroit.

Stephenson has impressed all season and is nearly a guarantee to get you 30 fantasy points in most standard scoring settings.

Mathews is a solid play most nights, and with Nicolas Batum still nursing an injury, he’s more attractive with Portland looking elsewhere for points.
