Fantasy Basketball: Nene Not Done Yet

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

One of the hottest fantasy basketball free agent pickups over the last several weeks has been PF Nene Hilario of the Washington Wizards. Most fans, though, know him simply as Nene.

Nene has always been a fairly decent shooter, but he was written off earlier in the year after another slow start. He was constantly missing games with various injuries and the veteran averaged a meager 12 points/5 rebounds in the month of December. He ended up becoming a free agent in nearly every format.

Recently, though, Nene was really started to turn up his game. The veteran has now scored double-digit points in 10 consecutive contests. He has averaged 15.7 points over that stretch to go along with a healthy 7 rebounds and 3.9 dimes. He has also stolen 17 passes and the big man has quietly become an all-around defensive option.

Nene has been receiving a healthy dose of playing time as well. The veteran has formed a strong rapport with C Marcin Gortat and the duo continues to run the post well together. Nene is crashing around with some of the best big men in the league and is still putting up some decent scoring totals. He looks healthier than ever and it isn’t a coincidence that he is having a career fantasy season.

Nene should continue to post strong scoring/rebound totals each night, as long as he remains in the starting lineup. He won’t record many 20-10 performances, but he will do enough to be a decent spot starter in deeper fantasy formats.
