After last week’s rain delayed Daytona 500, fantasy NASCAR fans will be ecstatic to see the circuit head to the dry heat of the desert. So for those of you participating in weekly fantasy races, here are the top-20 fantasy NASCAR drivers for the race in Phoenix this weekend.
20. A.J. Allmendinger
A.J Allmendinger – Allmendinger has cracked the top-20 eight in out of the last nine trips to Phoenix.
19. Aric Almirola
Aric Almirola - Almirola is a reliable top-20 threat and his favorable ninth pace start will make win a popular option this week.
18. Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Stenhouse Jr. started hot in qualifying, but will end up starting back in the 21st spot. He may be a top-20 option, but he isn’t worth more than that.
17. Austin Dillon
Austin Dillon – Dillon will start back in 24th this week, but the youngster has shown enough to be a constant top-20 option each race.
16. Clint Bowyer
Clint Bowyer – Bowyer will start back in the 14th spot, but he has just one top-10 in his last seven trips to the desert. Don’t put too much faith in the veteran this weekend.
15. Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch – Busch has been rather risky in Phoenix, as he only has two top-10 appearances in his last four races.
14. Jamie McMurray
Jamie McMurray – McMurray has cracked the top-25 in Phoenix in three straight races and his third-place starting spot will ensure him another fantasy relevant performance weekend.
13. Carl Edwards
Carl Edwards – Edwards won this race back in early 2013, but it was his only top-10 appearances in his last four trips to the desert. He will start back in 23rd and will once again struggle to reach the top-10.
12. Kurt Busch
Kurt Busch – Busch has cracked the top-15 in the desert in five of the last seven races.
11. Matt Kenseth
Matt Kenseth - Kenseth has just one top-10 finish in his last six finishes at Phoenix.
10. Greg Biffle
Greg Biffle – The veteran will start this week back in 6th and a top-10 finish seems almost guaranteed this Saturday.
9. Tony Stewart
Tony Stewart - Stewart has two top-11 finishes on the year and his performance this year is very promising to anyone thinking about grabbing the veteran.
8. Joey Logano
Joey Logano – Logano has averaged a finish of 17.10 throughout his career, but his second place start will keep him towards the front of the pack all afternoon.
7. Jeff Gordon
Jeff Gordon – Gordon has cracked the top-14 in three of last four races in the desert and JG will quickly make his way up from his 17 spot.
6. Kasey Kahne
Kasey Kahne – Kahne has four top-six finishes over the last six races in Arizona. He will start in the 11 spot and he has a strong shot at finishing inside the top-six again this Sunday.
5. Denny Hamlin
Denny Hamlin – Besides his miserable 28th place finish in November, Hamlin posted three straight top-three finishes in Phoenix. He may start back in the 12th, but expect the veteran to quickly crack the top-10 in Phoenix.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – After winning the Daytona 500 last Sunday, Junior will be a very popular pick this week considering his fifth place start.
3. Kevin Harvick
Kevin Harvick – Harvick has four career wins at PIR and the veteran won this race last November in shocking fashion. He won’t take long to crack the top-five this weekend.
2. Brad Keselowski
Brad Keselowski – Over his last four races in Phoenix, Keselowski has an averaged finish of 6.5. Now considering he will start in the top spot, consider him one of the safest options in Arizona.
1. Jimmie Johnson
Jimmie Johnson – Johnson finished second and third in the two races at Phoenix last year. He will start this year in fourth and is the obvious first fantasy option in Arizona this week.
