2014 Fantasy Baseball: Everth Cabrera Will Be A Top 5 Shortstop Again

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The first half of last year’s fantasy baseball season was truly a breakout performance from SS Everth Cabrera of the San Diego Padres. The young speedster was leading the league with 57 stolen bases and was even elected to the 2013 All-Star game as a reserve player for the National League. He was truly developing into a fantasy superstar.

Unfortunately, Cabrera found himself on Biogenesis list, along with Ryan Braun and the rest of the Bad News Bears. As a result, he was suspended the final 50 games of the 2013 season and the stopgap ended up ripping the heart out of thousands of hopeful fantasy owners.

Cabrera will severely slip in drafts this month due to all the negative attention, but fantasy fans shouldn’t forget the immense talent Cabrera brings to the table. Cabrera still sits atop of the Padres lineup and the speedster is a master at scoring runs.

Cabrera is also one of the most dangerous base stealers in the game. He has true 80-steal potential and the veteran will rival the league-lead in steals all year long. He will be one of the sneakiest options to rack up stolen bases this year and will once again prove to be godsend in roto-formats.

Cabrera will be a top-five shortstop in 2014 fantasy leagues and will be in store for a bounce back season. So if you can grab the speedster in the middle rounds this spring, don’t let him pass you by.
