Injuries are apart of every fantasy baseball season. It is simply inevitable that some players will get injured each year and it often happens to some of the most important players in fantasy.
There has been a number of top-tier fireballers that have already been placed the disabled list this year, including Cole Hamels and Mat Latos. However, no one could have expected the top two pitchers in fantasy would ended up on the DL at the start the year.
Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers is the censuses number one fantasy arm around the web. He has won two Cy Young Awards and is coming a 1.35 ERA/0.90 WHIP.
Unfortunately, Kershaw was scratched from his start on Friday and placed on the 15-day DL with a back jury. He apparently injured his back in his previous start and was having back spams. The Dodgers chose to be careful with their new $200 million man and they decided to shut the left-hander down for a couple weeks.
Besides Kershaw, Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish was also placed on the 15-day DL with a back injury. Darvish led the major with 277 strikeouts last season and has established himself as an elite fantasy hurler, but he will also have to start the year on the shelf.
Both starters were drafted to be number one options this fantasy season, but they will be forced to miss at least 2-3 weeks to start the season. It is hard to find reliable starters nowadays, and it can be absolutely maddening when your top pitcher misses the beginning of the season. Fantasy fans will simply have to remain patient with these two superstars and hope for a speedy recovery.
