2014 Fantasy Baseball: Wade Miley is Streamer’s Gold

Wade Miley

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Wade Miley is not the best pitcher in the league, but the Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher is a great streaming option next Sunday. Miley will start two games this week, but it’s the second game that has fantasy owners chomping at the bit as he faces the lowly San Diego Padres.

Miley is just 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA this season. He has a high walk rate and allows a lot of hits in small outings, but can strike out anywhere from five to eight batters in his outings. Despite the mediocre stats, Miley had some success on the road against the Padres in 2013. He went 2-for-3 in quality starts with a 2.65 ERA at Petco Park last season.

The Padres are one of the worst-hitting teams in the majors right now. They are 28th in the league in batting average (.221), 28th in home runs (13), last in OBP (.273) and last in RBI (58). With Chase Headley on the DL and Jedd Gyorko playing poorly, the offense should continue to struggle leading up to this game.

Miley is widely available in ESPN.com leagues, owned in just 19.9 percent of leagues. If you choose to use a pitcher’s slot for streaming, Miley is a great option to use next Sunday. When you go to the waiver wire Friday or Saturday night, Miley should be at the top of your wish list. He may not have the best WHIP, Miley’s ERA should remain low while picking up the win.
